Job Title: Safety Instructor

Requirements Overview:

Raytheon Cybersecurity, Training, and Services is seeking a Safety Instructor. This position is in Sterling, Virginia, with periodic short duration travel. This position requires a candidate to provide safety instruction as a member of a small multi-disciplined team, working alongside the customer, to deliver multiple Programs of Instruction, which prepare students for field operations.

The candidate will be responsible for the development and maintenance of curriculum for safety, medical, and rescue training. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing training materials, developing exercises, and keeping training up to date with evolving mission and technology requirements; leading execution of safety training exercises; performing trainee evaluations and readiness assessments. Training programs are designed with the intent to provide tailored and rigorous assessment of student skill development and readiness for field operations. The candidate will serve as a mentor to students with little to no direct experience.

The candidate will need to establish and maintain working relationships with applicable Subject Matter Experts (SME), training providers, and training coordinators. The candidate will routinely interact with customer personnel at all levels of seniority, and will support outreach to the greater customer communities to integrate relevant capabilities, services, and expertise into training syllabi. The candidate will integrate lessons learned, insights from the field, technology and procedural evolutions, and other applicable developments into standing curriculum. The candidate will be responsible for annual review of associated courseware content to ensure accuracy, relevancy, and effectiveness and will recommend strategic curriculum improvements that seek to enhance value and advance training towards customer-defined goals. The candidate must be adaptable to change and capable of handling requirements evolution.

  • TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Industrial Safety or related field.
  • Experience in safety programs concerning silica and/or isocyanates.
  • Experience with OSHA hazard communication standards and implementation of formal HAZCOM programs including processes for managing and maintaining safety data sheets, chemical inventory and labels.
  • Experience with OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard and the implementation of a formal program.
  • Experience providing instructional and qualification training, and in assessing and/or mentoring trainees.
  • Experience developing training curriculum that represents operational scenarios and prepares new operators for successful deployments.
  • Ability and willingness for occasional travel to various CONUS locations for durations of less than two weeks, typically.
  • Proven ability to operate under broad intent independent of direct oversight; must be reliable, trustworthy, and committed to success.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; able to articulate intent, frame requirements, set priorities, develop practical methods and align resources to meet goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish professional rapport with others in a small team environment, adapt to change, and thrive in an atmosphere that requires trust, teamwork, initiative, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Experience specifying, inspecting, and maintaining rescue equipment for field operations.
  • Experience with paramedic or emergency medical technician training certification.
  • Experience in planning and executing operations, and coordinating operational activities with stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting field operations in high-threat, austere environments.
  • Experience working with personnel of various cultures.
  • Experience supporting IC community programs and/or operations.
  • Certified Safety Professional certification preferred
  • OSHA #501 trainer course preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety, or related discipline. Advanced degree in Safety related discipline preferred.
