Box 611, Middletown, CT, 06457 USAPratt & Whitney, a recognized leading producer of the world's most advanced commercial and military turbine engines, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering professional to join Compression Systems Module Center’s Manufacturing Engineering organization. The Rotating Parts Technical Leader will support manufacturing of integrally bladed rotors or drum rotor parts manufacturing at Pratt & Whitney, Middletown, Connecticut. Rotating parts are machined from difficult to machine super alloys and require strict levels of dimensional and metallurgical quality.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
-Develop & implement machining, grinding, and surface treatments and other special processes on aircraft engine compressor rotors including:
Manage a team of Manufacturing Engineers specializing in machining, grinding, and surface treatments whose duties include CNC programming, process planning, process control , PFMEA, Root Cause Analysis and achieving of Production Part Approval (UPPAP).
-Review part models and preliminary design versus design standards, provide manufacturing producability input to designs. Review and approve release of
-Engineering Changes for production incorporation
-Provide manufacturing process options, propose trade studies, evaluate manufacturing process alternatives , and identify applicable new technologies
-Review process yields and rates, and make suggestions for improvement.
-Lead creation, maintenance, & approval of shop floor work instructions (including specifications, engineering changes, QAD/process control, and tooling definition/requirements.)
-Implement new capital equipment from specification and ordering through delivery, installation and release to production.
-Identify & implement shop floor process optimization & control methods to eliminate/prevent quality defects and reduce overall product costs.
-Provide focused & effective leadership in eliminating EH&S/Ergonomics/Human Factors risks and addressing quality issues.
-Significant interaction with the hourly work force, tool designers, quality assurance, integrated product teams, systems designers, and Information Systems are typical of the position.
Basic Qualifications:
-Bachelor Degree and 8+ years of relevant experience OR 5+ years of experience and an advanced degree
Preferred Qualifications:
-8 + years of experience, including shop operations experience and a strong machining and manufacturing engineering background.
-Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering or related field of study.
-Technical expertise in manufacturing of jet engine components is desired
-Knowledge of inspection methods, process controls, understanding of Lean or Six Sigma tools.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Understanding of CNC programming and automation is a plus
