The Compression Systems Engineering Operation Commercial Engines (OCE) Mechanical Design team is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer - Compression Systems professional. Experience in gas turbine engineering is preferred, but any experience with complex machinery and assemblies may be appropriate. If you have relevant mechanical design background and experience in these areas and possess the skills and motivation to bring new ideas into practice, we would like to like to hear from you. Our OCE team has design responsibility for a vast and challenging array of parts including rotors, blades, cases, kinematic systems and variable vanes across the entire Fan, Low and High compressor modules.

All design work will utilize UG NX solid modeling as well as other modeling and analysis tools. The candidate will work with other disciplines including structures, project, and product definition. This position is located in our East Hartford, Connecticut location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop technically sound design solutions within program schedule milestones that meet cost and weight goals.
  • Application of sound mechanical engineering across a variety of part types (static and rotating) as well as integration of detail components into functioning modules and systems.
  • Resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, all with limited supervisor oversight required.
  • Clear communication to all levels of the organization.
  • Coordination of product definition data and making layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals.  Final approval of product definition.
  • Provision of technical leadership and assistance in training less experienced engineers to help them diagnose and solve problems and build capabilities.
  • Leadership of multi-discipline Integrated Product Teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience and 5+ years of Mechanical Design engineering experience OR
  • Advance Degree in a related field and 3+ years of Mechanical Design engineering experience.
  • Work schedule: Hybrid, working alternately in-office and remotely.
  • US Citizenship required due to government contracts.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance.
  • Up to 10% travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Proficiency in Teamcenter, Unigraphics, Ansys, and classical methods of analysis.
  • Active US Government Security Clearance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of hardware, blueprints, dimensions & tolerances, and manufacturing methods.
  • Turbomachinery experience.
