Seeking a motivated and curious candidate for a Senior Research Engineer position in the Advanced Learning and Analytics team, part of the Intelligent Systems Department at Raytheon Technologies Research Center.

The Advanced Learning and Analytics team uses in machine learning, deep learning, data mining, and human computer interaction to solve a variety of challenging real-world problems with high impact in the aerospace, manufacturing and defense industries. Examples include autonomous flight, material discovery and design, analytics of flight data, automated visual inspection of parts, and prognostics health management (PHM).  We conduct basic and applied research in a stimulating multi-disciplinary environment where scientists, engineers, practitioners and subject matter experts enrich each other's perspectives through constant conversation.

We’re looking for a creative candidate eager to come up with new AI-based approaches to revolutionize design and manufacturing process optimization. A strong candidate:

  • Can research, design and prototype novel AI approaches for learning physics-informed surrogate models of physical phenomena.
  • Demonstrates the potential to initiate, lead, and execute funding opportunities through internal and external R&D.
  • Can stay abreast of the latest developments in the field by continuous learning and enthusiastically champion new ideas and new problem definitions.

Additionally, this role requires an ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment partnering with leading institutions worldwide (university, government agencies, national labs, and professional organizations) to meet organizational objectives. The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to provide timely, accurate and detailed reports and presentations, as well as documenting and publishing approaches and findings in technical venues.

Education / Certifications

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science required

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of demonstrable proficiency in Python, PyTorch, Tensorflow 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge in areas such as multi-fidelity modeling, active learning, UQ, black-box and surrogate optimization
  • Understanding of adaptive sampling techniques for manufacturing process optimization, design optimization or model calibration by learning from multiple sources such multi-physics simulations and test data.
  • Experience with fast hyper-parameter exploration, Bayesian methods, graph theory and reduced order modeling.
