The Materials Analysis and Characterization Group (within the Materials and Processing Engineering Organization) plays a critical role in the jet engine life cycle.  Our Team works largely with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing customers on a variety of technical challenges, which span engine safety and certification testing, manufacturing support, and technology development.

The Materials Characterization team is composed of 4 disciplines: Microscopy, Residual Stress, Analytical Chemistry, and X-Ray Scattering Methods.

We are seeking a Leader for our Microscopy Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure disciplined execution of all ongoing programs using the Leadership Operating Model and appropriate Project Management tools.
  • Create a Strategic Vision and Tactical Plan to address MPE needs regarding Optical and SEM-based Microscopy Process Automation, Digital Data Management and Remote Instrument Operation networking solutions.
  • Build a balanced team and develop existing group members to ensure appropriate skills to meet current and future microscopy challenges.
  • Forge partnerships with customers, peers, instrument vendors, and universities/government institutions to identify new business opportunities and secure funding across Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing.
  • Drive enhanced MPE-wide collaboration for shared-ownership initiatives, such as the Core Mentor Metallography Team and the SEM User Group.
  • Lead capital acquisition efforts to bring in critical equipment and technologies to meet customers' future needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science and Engineering or equivalent and 8+ years of prior relevant experience, OR, a Master’s Degree in a related field and 5+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrated technical and leadership experience in materials engineering discipline.
  • US Citizenship required due to government contract.
  • Work Schedule: Hybrid (Combination of On-Site and Remote Work).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Optical and SEM microscopy.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt.
