Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead the quality team focused on development and manufacture of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) turbine components. CMCs are an enabling material that increases the temperature capability of jet engine components. Through successful development and application of these materials, P&W will deliver engines that are more fuel efficient, lighter weight and more durable for commercial and military applications.
The CMC R&D Quality Manager’s responsibilities include:
Experienced aerospace quality professional will lead a team of Quality Assurance professionals to consistently deliver high quality products.
o Sets day-to-day objectives for the team.
o Responsible for improvement of processes, systems and/or products to enhance quality performance.
o Oversees quality initiatives to assist internal staff, suppliers, customers, and partners with initiatives to reengineer processes and methods that adequately assure quality products.
o Ensures that quality assurance procedures adequately evaluate an organization's products and protect customers.
o Manages plans, guidelines, policies and processes, to ensure the achievement of quality targets.
o Manages implementation of organization projects and processes to ensure overall quality is continuously improving.
o Manages quality improvement processes to ensure on-going reductions in Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and escapes.
o Manages the collection and analysis of quality information from multiple sources for use in developing long-term quality strategy and programs.
o Manages production process analyses, ensuring quality standards are met and making recommendations for quality improvement.
o Coaches, reviews, and delegates work to lower level professionals.
o Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
8+ years of relevant experience in quality or an Advanced degree and 5 years of relevant experience
5 years of leadership/managerial skills
Engineering degree is preferred.
Experience in Ceramic Matrix Composites or aerospace machining, forgings, castings, and gaging is desired.
Experience in precision, high volume component industries such as Aerospace, Medical Devices, Automotive, etc.
Familiarity with assembly operations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and other problem solving tools.
Experience with ERP systems (like SAP) and Manufacturing Resource planning software.
Experience supporting development of new processes and successful transition to production
A strong knowledge of continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma and LEAN
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships and exercise influence
Ability to lead small teams to deliver outstanding results and overcome challenges
Knowledge and effective practice of Environmental, Health and Safety requirements
Knowledge and effective practice of aerospace quality practices like ISO9001 AS9100
Experience establishing a quality management system
Must have the ability to work with all levels of management, personnel and customers
