The Mechanical Staff Engineer will work initially in the Engine Sensors design team developing highly reliable products which meet customer specified requirements/expectations at the lowest competitive cost. This group is responsible for the design, development, test, production support and certification of a wide range of engines sensor products including speed, flow, torque and oil. The staff engineer will be a highly motivated self-starter who will be capable of leading their own projects including schedule management and providing mentoring to other engineers. The staff engineer will be expected to represent the organization as prime customer contact on existing products and new designs, including making presentations to customers.
Support bids and proposals for new engine sensors
Thoroughly review and understand product specifications, and determine design requirements and scope of work.
Be the technical leader of complex, multi-discipline teams
Perform estimates of effort and duration for tasks.
Create and manage project schedules.
Requirements management and convergence planning.
Prepare and present stage gate design reviews both internally and externally to customers.
Generate design concepts in conformance with requirements and ensure that adequate trade studies and analyses are performed to arrive at optimum design configurations.
Perform tolerance analyses on components and assemblies to ensure proper fit/function.
Be proficient in CAD solid modeling techniques to prepare component and assembly models and drawings.
Writing test requests, supporting design verification testing, and coordinating with test department.
Specify materials including high temperature, corrosion and oxidation resistant alloys
Specify material joining methods and specifications for processes such as welding and brazing
Provide necessary engineering support for new hardware coordination and fabrication.
Provide MRB (Material Review Board) support and disposition nonconforming product.
Interface with all other functional groups and departments as required in the development of the product design.
Use department computer technology in an independent and productive manner.
Work with the Global Engineering Center in India on technical design tasks.
Experience with materials properties/selection and experience with manufacturing processes.
Drive the usage of appropriate Lean Product Development tools to support cost-effective technical solutions with a focus on platform design, reuse, and knowledge management.
Adhere to all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) as well as International Trade Compliance (ITC) regulations and policies.
Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of relevant experience OR
Advance degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR
In absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience is required
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or comparable degree
8+ years’ experience reviewing and knowledge of product specifications, and determining design requirements and scope of work.
8+ years’ experience performing estimates of effort and duration for tasks.
Demonstrated ability to create and manage project schedules.
8+ years’ experience of requirements management and convergence planning.
Demonstrated ability to prepare and present stage gate design reviews both internally and externally to customers
8+ years’ experience of generating design concepts in conformance with requirements and ensure that adequate trade studies and analyses are performed to arrive at optimum design configurations.
8+ years’ experience of program or project planning and resource management skills.
Demonstrated ability to provide effective collaboration across the organization and various disciplines including Engineering, Operations, Program Office, and Business Development.
Master’s Degree, or PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or comparable degree
Currently working or has recent experience supporting continuation/sustaining Engineering. (basically a engineer that supports the design after it goes into production. This is not the same as a manufacturing engineer).
Experience with AutoCAD (CREO)
Experience in RRCA
Experience working with Sensors (Temperature, Thermocouples (Type KP and Type KN), speed, torque, oil level sensors)
Knowledge of Welding
Experience with Engineering Change orders
Experience working in Aerospace or medical devices
