Raytheon Intelligence and Space (RIS) is looking for a Principal Software Architect in Aurora, Colorado.

In this role, you will get to work with an amazing Software Team in a collaborative environment at a state of the art facility in Aurora, Colorado. You will be joining the Vail Program where our software engineers and architects are developing and maintaining next-generation ground station software. Our complex domain requires creative solutions to meet evolving customer needs.

What You'll Get to Do

As a Principal Software Architect, you will be responsible for defining and designing the system software architecture to meet system requirements and customer needs.
Specific tasks include:
  • Develop preliminary and detailed designs
  • Work closely with the systems design team to implement all aspects of the system
  • Translate Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and DoDAF artifacts into software designs
  • Define and implement software prototypes to demonstrate capability and burn down risk
  • Define software tasks and schedules
  • Mentor software engineers
  • Design and manage software interfaces
  • Troubleshoot software problems and coordinate solutions across software teams
  • Oversee and guide program architecture
  • Communicate complex and diverse engineering topics to achieve team consensus
  • Assure the software architecture aligns with the program and customer architecture standards

You'll Bring These Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with a Current/Active U.S. Government TS/SCI security clearance
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or other relevant technical discipline.
  • 8 years of demonstrated engineering leadership and technical experience with a proven track record
  • 4 years of prior experience serving as a software architect on a medium or large program
  • Experience with the entire software lifecycle, preliminary design through maintenance phases using Agile and DevOps development approaches
  • Experience with mission management, planning and scheduling, or command and control
  • Excellent skills developing Java software in a Linux environment
  • Experience with JavaScript
  • Experience with COTS/FOSS integration
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and mentoring of teammates
  • Demonstrated decision making and ability to convey associated justifications and reasoning
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including experience with customer interaction, end-user engagement, development team interaction, and presentation of technical materials and status

It Would Be Great if You Also Had:
  • Experience with integrating custom software onto hardened platforms using Docker container strategies
  • Experience with REST services
  • Experience with automated build systems (GIT) or automated testing tools (Cucumber, Gherkin)
  • Experience with DevOps continuous delivery and delivery pipeline
  • Experience with Enterprise Architect and Atlassian management tools (JIRA, Confluence)
  • Familiarity with providing Basis of Estimate and software bids

In compliance with Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role is $98,700 to $187,500; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, work experience, education/training, internal equity, and alignment with market data.


There is the potential for a sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 for hires with an active TS/SCI or higher clearance



This position requires a U.S. Citizen with a current/active U.S. Government TS/SCI security clearance.
